  • What is a Giclée?
With the advent of giclée (zhee-clay) the art of fine art printing has become even more precise. Because no screens are used, the prints have a higher apparent resolution than lithographs. The dynamic color range is greater than serigraphy. In the giclée process, a fine stream of ink-- more than four million droplets per second—is sprayed onto archival art paper or canvas. Each piece is carefully hand mounted onto a drum which rotates during printing. Exact calculations of hue, value and density direct the ink of four nozzles. This produces a combination of 512 chromatic changes (with over 3 million colors possible) of highly saturated, nontoxic water-based light fast ink. The artist’s color approval and input are essential for creating the final custom settings for the edition

    What is Mixed Media?

This is where the artist creates a collage with paper and/or other elements, paints, wax, glass or metal and original imagery sometimes. Each picture may have the same component parts, but the composition will slightly differ. This makes each piece of art an original composition that can never be reproduced the same way.

    What is a Limited Edition?
Limited Edition applies to artwork produced in a deliberately limited quantity. Each item in the edition is identical and is an original work of art. The artist inspects each print before signing to ensure it is true to his/her original vision. The "s/n" Denotes a signed and numbered limited edition. The limited size of the edition enhances the value of each piece.

    What is an Open Edition?
Open Edition is a series of prints or objects in an art edition that has an unlimited number of copies.

Can you custom make any size in a giclée?

How large of an image can you print?

How do you do Canvas Reproduction?

Canvas  - Art reproduction on canvas which is created by a process such as serigraphy, photomechanical or giclée printing. Some processes can even recreate the texture, brush strokes and aged appearance of the original work.

I personally use giclée printing with the recreation of the brush strokes added to my work.

    What is an Artist's Proof?
Artist's Proof - Print intended for the artist's personal use. It is common practice to reserve approximately ten percent of an edition as artist's proofs. Artist's proofs can be distinguished by the abbreviation AP or E.A., commonly on the lower left of the work.

    What is a Printer's Proof?

Printer's Proof - Print retained by the printer as a reference. Artists often sign these prints as a gesture of appreciation.
